On the road again ....series

This was taken coming home this afternoon along the Forbes - Orange Road.

I was wondering who Forbes was named after and as mr Wiki reports it was named by mistake (after the first Chief Justice of NSW). There is another town now known as Hill End which was supposed to be named Forbes but there was an admin error.

Forbes is a town of about 7000 pop. situated on the Lachlan River. The original custodians of the land were the Wiradjuri Aboriginal people many of whom still live in the Central West. The first white visitation was by John Oxley who passed through this area in 1817 and was reported as saying "it is impossible to imagine a worse country". After a gold rush period, when many grand buildings were erected, the town went on to become a settlement for wheat and sheep farming.

One famous bushranger Ben Hall lived and died in this area ( he stole 77kg of gold).

My return trip today was about 340kilometres. Many of the roads are quiet so it is a pleasant drive.
