Waddesdon from Ashendon Hill.
Having called down to Jansell Square this morning I went to see my mammy. Had a good catch-up & a few cups of tea before I left for home. Still hadn't got a decent blip so diverted at Westcott & went the long way home. Fabulous scenery on this route & sometimes you just don't appreciate the scenery that is all around you. This picture shows Waddesdon Manor poking proudly through the trees on the top of the hill.
In 1874, Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild built the mansion of on a hill-top above the village. He transformed Waddesdon into an estate village, with new houses for employees and tenants, a school, a public house, cricket pavilion and village hall.
Waddesdon Manor and grounds are now the property of the National Trust, and Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild retains the estate and a house at nearby Eythrope.
Waddesdon Manor is only one of the Rothschild mansions that are centred in the Buckinghamshire Countryside. .....Mentmore, Ascot, Halton, to name but three more & all fascinating places. Waddesdon is well worth a visit & I actually worked there for several months after I left school...
fine morning & afternoon but a bit showery now
