Damselfly

I think these two damselflies are known as Beautiful Demoiselles or Calopteryx virgo.

They mate by the male, the main insect above, curving his abdomen to grip the female behind the head in the thorax. The female, you have to look carefully to see her head and her wings off to the left, curves her abdomen up to join the male genitalia.

This pair were next to the river bank, and if I stepped closer, I would have ended up in the water. Furthermore, their leaf was completely surrounded by three foot high nettles, and my arms were on fire while trying to get a better view.
