The end of an era in Newport

This is Crown Buildings. Chepstow Road, Newport. It has the the home of Newport HMRC (Inland Revenue) since the 1960s. It was built in order to bring the little offices around the town together in one place. It was my place of work for around 28 years until I left a few year ago. For the last few years there has only been the Enquiry office staff (approx. 7) on the ground floor (which was my area of work), and the Valuation Office staff (approx. 30) on the second floor. The other floors have remained empty. HMRC in their wisdom, decided to shut all the enquiry offices. Newport is one of the many closing their doors to the public today. Several of my friends in work are leaving HMRC and the rest transferring to Cardiff. Sad day as (in the years past) it was a lovely place to work. Now :(
