A Day at the Races, No More

This handsome fellow was one of several greyhound ambassadors on hand today at the Bellingham Farmer's Market. Greyhound Pets Inc. is an organization that adopts retired greyhounds from racing tracks around the country then works to find good homes for these elegant athletes.

Greyhound racing is now illegal in approximately 39 states and there only seven states today with functioning greyhound racetracks. Until today, I had never encountered a greyhound closeup and was surprised at how low key, laid back and gentle they were. If anyone reading has time and space to share with one of these magnificent animals, you should contact the hard-working folks at GPI and they will happily make the necessary arrangements.
