The Meerkats Are In With The Squirrels

The title comes from a sign I saw in a window - "Die Erdmännchen sind bei den Eichhörnchen" - which could have been a great Spy password from the Cold War. And you would answer "Yes, and the Zebras are talking to the Aardvarks".

Another awesome day in München. We walked and walked and walked and walked.

In fact, I think we overdid it a bit. It was worth it though.

To start we wanted to visit the Lenbachhaus but it was shut until after we'd gone home. Full marks to the waiter in the cafe who told us the bad news and then tried to get us to stay for a coffee. Excellent work.

We declined and went to the Alte Pinakothek* for a look at the Old Masters. Sadly a lot of stuff is out the Bible and after you've seen your 50th depiction of the Crucifixion it starts to wear. Still the highlights were this cracker from Franz Hals (he painted the Laughing Cavalier amongst other things) and the self portrait from Albrecht Dürer.

After that we walked to the Englischer Garten and I was a bit surprised at the FKK** aspect of that. Not that I joined in. And then along the Isar to a recommended pub called Rumpler. rxs - it has hooks at the bar and most mains are under 10 Euro.

Great day but very tiring.

This Blip was taken at the Eisbach. This woman was by miles the best surfer there and I really like the sense of motion in this..

*The Neue Pinakothek being closed on Tuesdays...
**Freikörperkultur or Free Body Culture, which basically means taking all your clothes off. Not something that I saw everyday in Edinburgh.
