Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud

Actually it is not mud. Not sure exactly what it is, but it is very unpleasant and very smelly. During the dry season, the locals throw their rubbish (of all natures...) into the storm drains that run along the side of the roads. You can just see the ditch by the young man here. Then, when it rains, the contents of the ditch are joined by dirt and run-off from the roads. The ditches can't cope with the water when we have rain, so water then overflows into the street. This creates lakes which slows the traffic because the drivers can't see the huge potholes made because the road surface is so bad. Solution: dig out the rain-ditches. However, they simply leave the dirt and accumulated 'whatever' in the road next to the ditch, making the roads narrower and traffic jams worse. No-one takes it away, it rots more, smells awful and flies are everywhere. Then, when it rains again, it gets washed into the ditches and blocks them. Solution: Dig out the rain-ditches - oh we have been here before......... and again, and again.
