Morning at the wharf

Recently I read an article on incorporating flare into your photography. I hadn't realised it was an actual style - when ever I had spotted flare it was a signal to delete fast. Had to give it a try though. Could any of you very knowledgeable folk out there tell me whether I am on the right track or not?
The photo was taken fairly early at the Riwaka Wharf.
