The Rock

All day long I have watched the rock. Let me restate that, "The Rock!"

It is that famous landmark of Morro Bay on California's Central Coast in the city of Morro Bay, which is really situated on the bigger Estero Bay.

These three photos were captured this afternoon in a period of 90 minutes. I took the first (on the top) and then 60 minutes later looked out our window to see what I captured in the second photo (the middle), and then about 30 minutes later, I took the third photo (on the bottom).

The Rock appears, this disappears, and then appears. It's fascinating, attention getting, and entertains us continually. We see it out the south side of our place. I can see it from the bedroom window when I wake in the morning, and we watch from the front windows while we eat our evening meal. And of course we cast a glance toward it all throughout the day.

Wikipedia explains, "Morro Rock is the best known of the Nine Sisters of San Luis Obispo County, a series of ancient volcanic plugs that line the Los Osos Valley between the cities of Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. It was one of many local landmarks to be mentioned in 'Weird Al' Yankovic's 1978 song 'Take Me Down.' Morro Rock is a 581-foot (177 m) volcanic plug located just offshore from Morro Bay, California, at the entrance to Morro Bay Harbor. A causeway connects it with the shore, effectively making it a tied island. The area surrounding the base of Morro Rock can be visited. The rock is protected as the Morro Rock State Preserve. P.S. Tomorrow we will make the 4-hour journey to our southern California home so that on Sunday we can go to Catalina Island with our great-grandson Tristan for a week of "Family Camp" at Campus By the Sea.
