Western Garter Snake (Red Spotted Variant)
I’ve been practicing my “quick draw” technique with the camera I carry in a pouch on my bike.
Today I crossed paths with a medium sized garter snake as I rode along.
A quick stop and dismount, coupled with retrieving the camera and making it operational, produced one photo before this snake made good his escape from my paparazzo intrusion into his world.
I was transported to my one of my first wildlife adventures as a young boy in Connecticut catching a large eastern garter snake for the first time.
A quick and accurate grab just behind the head so as to control the biting end of the snake is required as these snakes can be aggressive and will bite you even though they are not poisonous.
Today I learned about the Red Spotted Garter Snake which is certainly an added bonus.
Gosh, I love this place.
