Next year

Next year she will be in black PE kit too, officially in a team alongside her foundation stage friends, the Year 1s and Year 2s, taking part in what I have learnt today is always an incredible sports day. We went to cheer on her friend Lydia in her first sports day and had a really fabulous morning in the sun. She tagged along with their team.

The athletics track was lined with commonwealth flags. Each "country" team also had its national flag, and took part in an athletes parade at the start. There was an opening torch ceremony. Every team took part in track and field events (including the cutest hurdles known to man). It's quite competitive, but still in a fun and positive way. Lots of mini medal stickers for event achievements, well done stickers for noble efforts, but actual medals to be won for the top three teams, and staff & children equally keen to be the victors. They even had the national anthem of the winning team as they stood on the podium! Katie had a try at a couple of events, where she could manage to worm herself in- doing her best to be an honorary member of bronze medallists Team Scotland. She loved it. Bonus that there were scones, which she ate two of. She was thrilled as always when her teacher waved at her and lots of friends came and said hello. It was another opportunity to see the school excelling, both in the event they organised and the manner in which they treated the children. Every time I set foot in the place, I leave happier still that this is where Katie will spend the next seven years. As for Katie, she's absolutely in no two minds about her keenness.

Before sports day, we had spent a couple of hours in the garden, planting vegetables and flowers. She has a little children's propagator in my studio now! Our vegetable patch has actual vegetables growing in it, and I've renovated three flower beds. We revisited them after sports day, giving them a further water and happy "please grow, don't die" thoughts. She's desperate for the pumpkin to grow, I'm not entirely sure why. We also got her booked into the summer reading club at the library- usual summer reading challenge, plus a nice weekly book group to chat about their books, read together and such. She's going with friends and is rather excited!

Ballet to end the day, very full of it she was! Happy day!
