Drummond Castle Gardens

Described as the most formal garden in Scotland those at Drummond Castle were originally set out in 1630 with the central feature being a magnificent huge obelisk sundial which was made when there was great interest in astronomy and sundials were the only accurate way of telling the time. In 1830 the parterre was reconstructed in an Italian style with the central part taking the form of a Saint Andrews’s flag. Now an ongoing programme of renovation maintains the original 19th century design with its magnificent display of topiaries and yew columns, roses and other plants interspersed with many statues and urns.
I think it will be quite spectacular when the roses and other flowers start flowering but personally I prefer more informal gardens.
