Dragon on the roof

Caffe Nero on Tonbridge High Street used to be the Dorset Hotel back in the old days before coffee and charity shops took over.
In 1903 the hotel was owned by the 26 year old, former waiter Charles Buxenstein but I cannot find out when it opened or when it closed down. What caught my eye is the little red dragon on the roof , here is a close-up. Apparently dragons like this were put on roof apexes to ward off witches and other evil creatures, presumably to keep the hotel guests safe in their beds at night.
