La Belle France et Cherbourg!
Due to my dotty Godmother being totally dotty, had a rude awakening at 5.30am, an hour earlier than planned. And consequently we arrived at the ferry terminal at Poole an hour earlier than necessary, to find ourselves the only people there!
But it was the most gorgeous day, and sailing out of Poole Harbour under blue skies soon made up for the early start to the day. The sea was as calm as a mill pond, and the ferry was so quiet, only 200 passengers (the ferry has a capacity for 800!). Four and a half hours later we arrived in Cherbourg.
We couldn't have asked for better weather, and had a lovely time strolling around the harbour, browsing the shops in the old town, and enjoying a chilled glass of rosé wine at a pavement café in the market square. In the evening we found a small brasserie next to the harbour and had a lovely time sipping Kirs, followed by more rosé, goats cheese salad and scrummy chocolate mousse.
Eight hours after landing in France, we were back on board the ferry, sailing out of Cherbourg under a golden setting sun, the perfect end to the day....
Except that wasn't the end, we then headed to the café for another chocolate mousse, then the bar to watch my two minutes of the World Cup and for a final Kir!
