'When the Tide is out the Dinner Table is set'
Another busy day....I had loads to do but really wanted to go to the beach and see the Sea! My favourite place to be! This is a shot from Pevensey over to Hastings. It was so windy...very difficult to keep the camera still.
Sea Kale is nearly the perfect primitive food.Archaeologists think early man stayed on the shore because there is so much food there. Some coastal Indians of Alaska have a saying which in modern terms means: When the tide is out the dinner table is set.The root is very nutritious as are the leaves.
Sea kale is mentioned in some of the earliest references to food. The Romans preserved it in barrels for sea voyages. Its high vitamin C content prevented scurvy. Its botanical name is Crambe maritima. Crambe is from the Greek "Krambe" meaning cabbage or crucifer. Maritima means oceanside. I believe it is now illegal to pick leaves from these plants on the seashore.
We had a brilliant line dance class tonight and learnt a new dance called 'Divine Line'.
