Stronachlachar
Loch Katrine is roughly 8 miles long by 2/3 of a mile wide and runs the length of Strath Gartney. Rob Roy MacGregor was born at Glengyle House at the northern end of the Loch.
It is the fictional setting of Sir Walter Scott's poem The Lady of the Lake and of the subsequent opera by Giachino Rossini, La donna del lago.
Loch Katrine is owned by Scottish Water and is the primary water reservoir for much of the city of Glasgow and its surrounding areas.
Today our club walk took us to Loch Katrine. After stopping at the Cafe at Loch Venachar for morning coffee, we travelled to the pier at Loch Katrine and sailed up the loch to Stronachlachar on the good ship 'Sir Walter Scott' which is 150 years old .
From there we walked seven miles over Meall Meadhonach and Faery Knoll into the Loch Ard Forest, and along Loch Chon to Loch Dhu where we finished our walk.
It was dull for most of the day but very close. We really enjoyed it, especially the hill walk which gave us good views of the loch. However, I rather liked this view coming into Stronachlachar.
