Carp

Today's the day ........................ to fish

It's not just the hirers of narrowboats that use canals for recreation and leisure purposes.

They are a popular place to be for walkers (with or without dogs), joggers, cyclists, canoeists - and especially those who like to fish. Of course, sometimes these different sorts of users can be in competition with each other. In theory, pedestrians take precedence over cyclists - although no one seems to have told the cyclists that.

Narrowboats can be a bit of a nuisance to fishermen because - unless they want to see their lines carted off downstream - they have to wind their rods in while the boats go past. But, for the most part, this is done without any undue hostility - and more likely accompanied by an exchange of cheery greetings.

There had been a lot of fishermen on the bank not long before I took this picture. They were pretty large carp (I think) - some more than a foot long - and they were swimming in big shoals near to the boat.

So, perhaps fish can distinguish between fishermen and boaters ...................?
