Hill Farm
I've picked up a camera just once in fifteen days - life has been on the wrong side of manic.
The one occasion was the earlier back blip from a week yesterday. Even then I was busy.
Have driven 1,700 miles in 14 days, 700 of which was in a transit van over two days. The van was loaded and unloaded four times - a few tonnes of stuff moved all by hand, all to get No 1 son (and two mates) set up in a new place for a years (15 months actually) university placement. Quite a few more journeys up and down the M1 done including 3 trips to Emley Moor for work (with another one pending this week).
Last weekend it was our turn to have the boys Gemini Birthday BBQ. Quite a bit more moved to get the place tidy. Everything put back again on the Sunday (after a long night drinking and eating - not easy).
We went up the M1 again today to see how Jamie has got on in his first week working and to show his mum and brother the place where he is living as they hadn't seen it yet. Amazing, they have a vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board, washing machine - all sorted by themselves. Am wondering how long these will be treated as ornamental!
Poor little mite has just learnt what working is all about. "Tiring" was his only word describing the first week. He is its seems settling in well and challenged by the work. As usual (and quite right) for students on a placement, it's starting at the bottom - he's working in the IT hardware support group, keeping a major retail chain working by swapping out and repairing IT equipment. An essential and critical task for the business, but also critical for students to see what organisations need to keep the cogs greased and wheels turning. Having worked there, most people leave (I hope) with a respect for the people who do the job. After a few weeks of that, he and his mates hope to progress into the IT Dev team. Then, the creativity and enthusiasm of youth gets tempered by harsh commercial realities (oh, and bosses who know far more than you do). Let battle commence!
