Down the Hill
That's the fire station for the voluntary fire brigade you can see down there. It houses a truck and a water pump. There's a nice veranda to sit on when they are waiting for the call, but I'm not party to any more of their closely guarded secrets. Practically every village has one to supplement the regular service. We used to have a gigantic uniform knocking about the house but I thought they might have some better use for it. It had belonged to a former inhabitant of the farm here. I'm not sure what happened to the hat, a rather unusual triangular one. It turned up later somewhere unexpected but it was rather too small to wear. Thelonius Monk apparently had one. One can only guess how it ended up with him.
The news from Poland today is beyond the help of the OSP.
