The Icehouse, John o'Groats

We hadn't planned to stop at JoG for ice cream . . . but as we were passing, it would be rude not to. So we stood in the rain and looked out to sea.

The icehouses were used in the salmon fishing industry. In Thurso, they actually had an ice farm. The meadows next to the river were flooded in winter. The resulting ice was then collected and stored.
