Part of the old port
. . . of King's Lynn. The handsome building used to be the Customs House and its grandeur befitted what was once England's third largest port. The statue opposite left is of Captain George Vancouver who charted America's west coast in the late 1790s, he was born in the town. Various old anchors and chains are spread out behind him. The stretch of water is known as the Purfleet and joins the Great Ouse behind where I am standing.
One can but imagine the old sailing ships carrying cargo, checked by the merchants who had grand houses nearby, fuelling a lucrative trade for the area. And the old Customs House? Now a tourist information office.
LARGE if you wish.
