An Amazing Encounter at the Seaside

The waltzing surf waves. The continuous rustling of the meeting between the shore and that immense deep green blue sea. That cheerio-song of my dearest fisher friends: the Terns. There were only a few that passed this afternoon their skimming, diving and catching play along the Zandmotor. But one cry of their spirited singing voice fills up my heart and makes me feel a happy child. Just like yesterday I’m speechless and flowing over from awe and gratitude. So simple is this mixture of wind, sand, splashing overflows of salty waters. You look around and see that horizon in blues from North to South. The sailing boats at open sea, Ah...!

I enjoyed my turbulent swimming break, receiving head on these white crested tumblers, floating on my back up and down, turning down and up again. Leaving the surf just from satisfaction, now the water temperature is above 15C. Sheer delightful pleasure. And as I was drying myself up on the beach a very little creature moving between the sand grains drew my attention. At first I couldn’t discern what it was: a small ant? Or what then?

It was moving crabwise, camouflaged as hardened sand, but scrabbling sideways in the direction of my backpack and me...I retired and put my pack further away. But this mini-crab - less than an inch - or was it a newborn? - this tiny creature was quite resolute and turned definitely towards my feet. I let it happen as I wanted to see what it would do, what it was after. Well, it crawled under my big toe...Apparently that urgently needed comfortable shadowy shelter.

That was my “shocking” experience of this afternoon at the seaside. Suddenly Being that Big Shelter for a Tiny Sandcrab. Never dreamed of such a revolutionary step in my critical ecophilosophical “anti-career”: Tyn turning into Shelter for Tiny Sandcrab Jr. But when I told about this simply amazing encounter while tasting the delicious lentil soup Mischa had prepared for us, it was promptly followed by joycries and a serious bid to write it down in this Journal. Quid hic feci. Cum amore.
