Cultivated Poppies

My neighbour was given some cultivated poppy seeds by his son’s mother-in-law and just scattered the seeds on the ground on a patch of his garden that borders the gateway to our joint driveway. She was therefore surprised to see them growing so abundantly. I took theses towards the end of the afternoon when the flower heads were beginning to close up. I was fascinated by the way in which the poppies flatten their petals together almost as if they are in prayer mode. The other thing than I always find very striking about poppies is the way the buds droop right over as if the stems cannot bear the weight of the buds and then next day the stems straighten and they are in full flower.
