The Icknield Way
Today I visited Holy Trinity Church, Chrishall, a 12thC church and one of seven in the Parish of The Icknield Way Villages. The Icknield Way is a Neolithic track which passes through the parish. Chrishall's location is key to its character; as the village sits at the highest point in Essex, at 147 metres (482 ft) above sea level. The group of parishes asked for some input into teaching the Old Testament to children. Much lively discussion followed!
What is clear is that these folks are committed, passionate and knowledgeable and have a great desire to serve God. They have a fantastic minister, Andy, who is a model for all. It takes a good minister to draw out the best in people, hold together people from differing traditions and hold fast to those things that are good and common to all.
We wandered around the church, inside and out, using different places for different parts of the session. Using Deuteronomy 6 as a base, we looked at how our physical location reflected our spiritual priorities. And just look at the massive oil painting dominating one of the locations used. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a large painting occupy a space so fully. Thank you, folks of Icknield Way Parishes, for your brilliant service to your community.
