SPOTTED SHAG

I went to the Spotted Shag rookery at " suicide point " today. It was high tide and a bit difficult to negotiate the rocks without getting wet. Being a bit of a wooss! I didnt get too far but managed to see some nice birds developing their mating plumage and starting to look very handsome indeed. This one has a way to go yet. His wattle around his beak will go a teal colour. One or two pairs have started gathering their nesting material and will probably lay an egg or two in the next week or two. Its the shortest day today and a very mild one it was in Christchurch.
