making a mark
This replica tile is from a pre-Roman settlement site near where I lived in Spain. From the earliest recorded cave paintings one thing we humans need to do is communicate our response to the environment and time we live in. We make marks, we make art. We respond at some profound level to these representations of how we see our world.
Art, be it music, painting, dancing, sculpting, writing etc is perhaps the one thing that distinguishes us on this planet. If I point to the moon a person will look at the moon, an animal - lets say a dog, will look at the finger moving. We have this wonderful imagination and ability to communicate it. We can try to make each our own mark for the ages. We look and long for this communion of resonance in one another.
