Lys Hansen's Studio

I visited artist, Lys Hansen, in her studio near Dunblane today. This is a snapshot of the front area as you walk in the door.
I'm writing about Lys and her work ahead of a major exhibition of her work called Love + War + Paint which opens soon at the Lillie Gallery in Milngavie.
Her studio in the village of Braco used to be an old smiddy servicing a nearby hotel.not was built by her husband and her two sons.
I first became aware of Lys a few years ago when she gave a talk about my art heroine, Joan Eardley, at Callendar House.
Lys' art is hugely expressive and deeply personal. She's telling her own story and everyone's story. I nearly wrote 'everywoman's story' there, but hesitated.
Her work touches me as a woman and as a human being, especially her visceral paintings and drawings which relate to war.
After being in the studio, we headed back to her house at Blairlogie, where we sat in her beautiful garden and had lunch with her husband, George.
A good day at work.
