Bert Hinkler
was a man fascinated by flight. His most renowned achievement included a pioneer solo flight from England to Australia in 1928 and the world's first solo flight across the South Atlantic in 1931.
This week in Bundaberg they have been celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the relocation of Bert's home from Southampton in England to the Botanical Gardens in Bundaberg (Bert's birthplace). I have photographed the house every time I've visited the gardens over the past week. On each occasion I have been seduced by the wonderful bird life that abounds within the garden and it has had to wait its turn to make it onto Blipfoto!!.
Bert and his home have a fascinating history and it's amazing to think that his home was painstakingly dismantled brick by brick and transported to it's new location.
Sadly, Bert's pioneering attempts came to an abrupt end 7 January 1933, when he died whilst attempting another solo flight from England to Australia.
