Red Clover among Yellow Rattle

Twelve years ago, the meadow next to the house was the corner of a potato field. Sometimes farmers would spray herbicides within twenty yards or so of the house. Luckily though the farmer decided to sell his land and I was fortunate to have enough money to buy and acre of it. A legacy from my parents.

I had it ploughed and sowed a conservation grass mix which has a loose root structure, making it easier for wild flowers to colonise. It has been interesting watching how the land is slowly naturalising. At the moment there is a lot of yellow rattle and a fair amount of clover, both white and red. This year I saw the first poppies.
