Birthday Flowers
Today is Mum's birthday - she is 91. As usual, she protested that she didn't want any fuss making about it, but we opened her cards together after breakfast and she was obviously pleased with them and all the messages and news from family members that came with them.
I was just making lunch for us when Omid and Nasrin arrived with this lovely bunch of flowers. They are Iranian refugees and Mum has helped them in a variety of ways, along with other members of her church to which they belong. They have very much taken her to their hearts and say that she is like a second mother to them, so Mum was very touched both by their visit and their gift.
The vase comes from Spain and belonged to Mum's mother. The needlework on the tablecloth was done by my sister when she was about 11. A couple of family heirlooms!
