The Washington Pub, Hampstead, London
Built as The Washington Hotel in 1865 by the man who turned the vilage of Belsize into the residential area Belsize Park - Daniel Tidey.
It is named after the village in West Sussex where Tidey was born.
Tidey became famous for building the large 10 bedroom semi-detached houses with grand porticios and stucco that make up parts of Belsize Park today, but he over-extended and went bankrupt in 1869. At one stage, the local nick-name for Belsize Park was Tideytown because of his influence.
