Last of the Sun. GX1, Leitz Summicron 50mm DR
The last rays of the sun striking a building this evening brought to mind a stanza from a Kipling poem called "Bridge-Guard in the Karroo". It was written during the Boer War in South Africa where Kipling was a war correspondent. If only he'd used his genius for good, like Thomas Hardy... Anyhow, here's the verse:
Royal the pageant closes,
Lit by the last of the sun --
Opal and ash-of-roses,
Cinnamon, umber, and dun.
One just has to get past the fact that there's no bridge, no Karroo, no guards, no train. Other than that, it's really quite the same.
