Day Out in Lancaster
I woke up at about 7am this morning and it was luxury just to be able to roll over in my lovely big hotel bed and go back to sleep!
We eventually all woke up at about 10am. Bliss!
After our Burger King feast last night (starting our carb loading early!!) we stocked up on trashy magazines in WHSmith and headed back to the room for some tea, lazing around and reading before sleep.
When we got back to the room there was a message on Facebook about the man that had died earlier doing the Great North Swim. It made me feel quite uneasy - earlier that day he'd have been all excited about his swim like I was and just a few hours later he's dead.
I assume he had an underlying condition but how do I know I don't?!
We just about managed to get out of the room while it was morning - 11.48am! - and headed to Lancaster for the day. What a lovely town. And what fantastic charity shops!
We had a wander, had a scrummy lunch in Bella Italia (more carb loading!!!), went up into the old town by the priory and castle - lots of cobbles and massive walls!
We discovered that the castle was actually a prison and it was very odd to walk through the gates - past all the security notices, barbed wire and mirrors - to discover a tea room and a man in fancy dress doing a guided tour. Very odd!
It turned out the prison closed in 2011 but they hadn't got round to taking any of the signs down!
We had tea and I bought a fridge magnet!
After clearing out every charity shop in Lancaster we headed off to Morecambe to see the sea. After we'd seen the mud sea we headed back to the hotel for a few more hours of reading, tea drinking and chatting.
We'd picked up dinner in M&S so it was a little healthier than last night!
England v Italy!!! We have to up at 6am so I shouldn't watch it.
No doubt I will end up watching it!!
