Birthday Cakes

It's my birthday today and of course that means cake. I've baked the regular apple pie and had some plans for a special raspberry tart, but that turned out too complicated for today. So we bought a handful of chocolate cakes too and they looked and were delicious too.

Right now we're on pre-dinner drinks and snacks, like the new herring on toast. One of the funny things of Dutch birthdays is that the birthday persons (well, the birthday women, that is) actually have to do the most work , getting everything ready for the guests.

Of course, I do share this birthday with Father's Day, whenever the birthday falls on a Sunday. And it was the final of the World Championship Field Hockey (Well done Australia, congrats !) and of course there are also 3 World Cup games going on today. In between we'll have to have dinner ....

Thanks for your comments, stars and even a fave on yesterday's Blip, it is true that it seems as if our generation does age differently, looking at the group of friends yesterday they didn't look anything like my grandparents in their late 50s and early 60s. BTW , I turned 58 today, so still a 'youngster' ;-) Still totally behind, I promise that 'regular service' will return from tomorrow
