Patio performers (hopefully)
I know that chilli plants love our baking hot patio and I've just planted up this year's selection. The patio is too hot for most allegedly drought resistant plants in the summer. It's south facing and we have the same dark grey tiles on the patio as in the kitchen. This looks great, especially when the doors are open, but we didn't appreciate how hot the tiles would get in the sun. (Last year we tried frying an egg on them. The egg remained raw, and we just had to clean up the mess, but walking on the tiles with bare feet on a sunny day will result in cries of pain, and a swift search for shoes).
The chillies are Joe's Long (half eaten by slugs, may not make it), Topaz, Nasu, Superchilli and, one we haven't tried before, Big Sun. Superchilli and Nasu have flowers on already.
In other garden news, all 4 of the fuchsia cuttings have taken root, and their mother plant, moved rather brutally with what looked like a totally insufficient root system, has responded to the move and hard pruning by putting out some very healthy shoots. Result!! I've also seen Great Tits eating lily beetle larvae, which is very satisfying.
