Blow the cobwebs away
Desperate to do the Guernsey Fathers Day Half Marathon today so a last minute registration at 9am confirmed my place.
With no training, I was rather apprehensive but I promised myself a year ago that I would do it again.
I completed the race about 3 years ago when it started at Pleinmont and finished at Bulwer Ave.
When I watched the runners finish on the town sea front last year, it was such a lovely atmosphere that I was up for the challenge again.
However, work commitments over the last year have prevented me from keeping fit but thought I would give it a go anyhow.
The race started at L'Eree where I had a chat with some friends and acquaintances about the amount of training they had done. I just decided that the worst that could happen is that I would pick up an injury and have to pull out. I knew I could do it though and wasn't worried about a slow time.
The weather was fine although the wind was against us the whole way, I found it refreshing rather than a hindrance though.
Had a similar experience to the first time I took part, which was: loved the coastline scenery throughout, loved challenging myself by creeping up on runners and over taking them and then hitting a low with 2 miles to go. Energy levels felt non-existent and could've just done with a lucozade or gel to stop dizziness and the legs crumbling.
I have so much respect for people who run marathons because I can't see myself ever running one!
Pleased with today though and maybe I might get the time in the future to return to running club and getting back into it to help improve my time of 2hr 12, next year.
