Cappadocia
Taken at Cappadocia, central Turkey.
On our way across Turkey we diverted to see the Cappadocian caves, a curious series of dwellings hewn out of the strange standing rocks in the valley floor.
I'm not sure what the stone was, very white, like Limestone but rather more hardy. Either way, it made these strange upright rock formations seem completely out of place; a fact compounded by the small dark windows and doorways carved out of them in which there are still a few people living, and on the other side of the valley from this location there is a larger rock, into which a working church has been carved, still used as such now.
They made me think of something which it took me until now to register properly; the Sit Downs from the old children's animation 'Stoppit and Tidyup'. If you can find a video of them, that will give you the idea of how I was feeling, walking through this strange and eerie... township of cigar shaped Flintstone type houses...
