Not quite the first day with my daughter I expected but as I'm rapidly finding out plans and expectations are out the window from now on!!
My beautiful girl has spent the day on the neonatal unit - she has a bit of a grunt sound (am sure there's a technical term) and struggles a bit with oxygen intake when she's crying so needs investigating to find the cause and to be helped out a bit. Is hard as we can only touch her through the holes in the side of her incubator (she's in one as is easier to control environment and make monitoring easier) and she's on a glucose drip rather than me being able to feed her. But all the tests have been positive and in her doctors words she a conundrum so hopefully they'll either find a simple cause or she'll just grow out of it. Mum and dad came over and were awesome - I was born 6 weeks early and in an incubator for some time so they get it. The Inlaws came too and I think found it a little harder as they don't have a frame of reference and she was a bit unsettled at that time.
Keeping positive and the fella and I are supporting each other brilliantly (including him helping me with expressing which is a job no man should see let alone help with!) and the pluses are I've now got my own room and the fella can stay here as long as he needs not just during visiting (neonatal is 24hr visiting). Just need to remember I've had a major op and can't do too much - being pushed from ward to unit in a lovely wheelchair.
Took this photo just before she went to the neonatal unit - she suits orange!
