Aoraki Mt Cook and the Hooker Valley in winter
Magnificent view from the Sealey Tarns Track today, above the snow line.
Aoraki Mt Cook is on the left, with the Hooker Terminal Lake below it. The Hooker River then flows down into the Mueller Lake, which is partly frozen. The moraine wall was created when the Mueller Glacier carved its way down the valley between the 14th and 19th centuries.
It was still -3C when we started up the steep Sealey Tarns Track this morning at 10.30, and it stayed very cold but sunny for a beautiful winter day.
