Finally!

Yes, Tara, the pup no one wanted, has graduated! Tara was lovingly trained by two female inmates at our County Jail. The program is called Paws on Parole Unleashed and the women train them 4 hours a day, 5 days a week for 8 weeks. Two dogs are trained at the Jail and six dogs are trained by male inmates at the Work Camp. The dogs are then able to be adopted by the general public. We adopted Tara, who won my heart when, as a volunteer, I handled her at a Meet & Greet six weeks ago. Since then Tara has been spending weekends, on Parole, at our house then back to Jail for another week of training! Here's my original blip of Tara, then called Peg...SPECIAL. And here's the blip after we decided to adopt her...REALLY SPECIAL!

The two young women who have spent 8 weeks training Tara are both being released from Jail within the next couple of weeks. And both have expressed a desire to continue their work with dogs, possibly eventually as Vet Assistants. Best of luck to them :)

The young male German Shepherd Dog in this shot is Buddy. He also graduated today and has been adopted by a Sheriff's Deputy who works at the Jail. Now he lives with a female dog, who takes no 'stuff' and will keep him in line! ;) When you are looking for your next 'Best Friend' please consider a Rescue!
