Tuesday morning we headed back towards the Spanish steps and up to the Villa Borghese, where you get a pretty incredible view of the city. Although I think we were more excited by the four person pedal-bike things they have to get around the garden, which is all fun and games until the point you actually have to face a roundabout with actual cars and lorries. Somehow we survived though and headed for lunch before Jo had to catch her flight home. In the afternoon the remaining three of us headed for the Vatican. Or tried to at least. It did take us a while to work out how to actually get there and spent a good 20 mins walking up a hill before realising we were going in completely the wrong direction. More embarrassingly if we'd turned around at one point we would have actually been able to see St Pauls... Anyway we made it and went straight for the Vatican museum and the Cistine Chapel. We were prepared for the possibility of having to queue for hours, but somehow we must have timed it perfectly as we were able to walk straight in and, other than the occasional large tour group, the museum wasn't too busy either. Once our necks had started to ache from having gazed at Michelangelo's masterpiece, which is rather inconveniently located on a ceiling, we headed back towards St Paul's Basilica. Although not before we'd also witnessed a prayer being said in the Cistine Chapel which was really quite special. Once we'd walked around the basilica, and our feet ached as much as our necks, we headed home before heading out for yet more pizza and drinks near the apartment. Discovered a place called Bar del Fico which seemed very popular with the locals as it was packed and everyone was spilling out over the street. Made fantastic people watching.
