Back home
I had a great time. The reason I went was mainly the fact that I had my birthday yesterday. I just didn't feel like celebrating. My mother is not able to climb my outdoors steps and I don't want to celebrate without her. The weather was going to be hot, hot, hot. I didn't want people in my tiny hot house. It's just not a celebration for me that way. My younger brother graciously offered his house and garden to me, but I don't always want to impose. So what was I to do?
The answer to my dilemma was to rent a holiday home. Perfect! If only I had thought of this a few weeks earlier I would have been able to invite the rest of the family over there as well, it was too late for that now. But I know what to do next year!
I had a super weekend! I went over on Saturday, fetched my mother and took her home in the evening. My younger brother came over by bike. The camp site is a 45 minutes bike ride away from him and a 15 minutes car ride away from my mother. On Sunday I picked my mother up early in the morning. In the afternoon my best friend and her family came by and also my younger brother again. My friends kids had a great time playing football and going for swims. My brother took my mother back home (he was by car this time), so I had some time to myself later in the evening, enjoying the solo time in front of my cabin.
I had a walk planned early on Monday, before the worst of the heat would set in. My plans for 'early in the morning' often go astray..., so I finally left around noon. I was gone for over an hour when the sky darkened and darkened... Fortunately I brought an emergency cape, a very tiny one. Not really fit for a downpour... but at least it was something. Getting wet was not my main concern, I was a bit worried about the thunder and lightning. So I kept saying to myself things like 'What are the odds someone gets struck by lightning?'. 'And if so, what are the odds that I am the one that gets struck?'. 'What are the odds that I walk past the tallest tree around in the forest?'. It wasn't until today that I heard 6 people have been killed that day in Germany, because of the storm...
Well, at least I had had over an hour of carefree walking in a very beautiful area. And now that I've found the area I will be able to come back, following a coffee visit to my mother, sometime. I arrived back safe and sound at the cabin and when the weather cleared me and my book had a good time outdoors. I even went for a swim.
Yesterday was my actual birthday. My friends were already there on Sunday, so yesterday it was just my mother for the entire day and my younger brother for later in the afternoon and dinner at the campsite's restaurant. A super way to celebrate!
