tripping

Got to my work today to find a whole school heading for the Safari Park. I didn't know about it beforehand but was happy to tag along and help as these trips help relations between the adults and children, and adults and adults.

We wandered about a bit, circumnavigating Chimp Island in the rain. Then my group headed into the lemur zone. It was suddenly unnerving. We were the only ones there and felt that we shouldn't have been. As if we'd stepped behind the scenes of the Safari Park. There were lemurs lazing about on the fence as we passed. And complete silence and a feeling of isolation. We adults looked at one another. We're through the looking glass people... We started spooking each other out and trying not to infect our nervousness to the children. This here red ruffed lemur sprawled on the fence as if we weren't there. It watched us humans impassively as other lemurs strolled about in the open.
What if we're in the animal zone? Aren't there lions and tigers and eh.. giraffes at large hereabouts!!??
We were getting a bit giddy nervous hysterical like.
Then a couple pushing a pram headed down the path towards us. And it was like the safety valve was released and all the tension blew like steam through a whistle. Phewwwwwwwww!!
The lemur yawned, turned, scratched and went back to whatever it is that red ruffed lemurs day dream about.

So we relaxed and started pointing out the animals to the children like before. Like we hadn't - briefly - entered the Twilight - sorry lemur - Zone.
