Hello, Sailor!
Apparently, Goole is Britain's leading inland port. There is always some activity going on in the docks and when the ships are on the move the whole town grinds to a halt as the roads close and the waterways open.
Usually, when drivers approach the barriers and see that they down they turn round and take an alternative route. This isn't always easy as, by the time you've driven round the outskirts of town, you get stuck in the traffic which has built up on the other side of the barriers.
As I approached this afternoon and saw the barriers coming down and several cars ahead of me turning round I was tempted to follow suit but then I thought, "No! Your camera is on the back seat. Don't be in such a hurry! Wait for the ship, take some pictures, see if there's anything worth blipping."
The ship is the Fast Jef, a Belgian cargo ship. It arrived this morning and left this afternoon, heading only as far as Boston, Lincs.
These aren't brilliant photos but they represent quite a landmark for me. I actually got my camera out in a public place and I didn't care that people were watching me! Well done, me!
