But in these conditions route choice and brave/foolhardiness make more of a difference. A new short cut was tried - straight across Dunsapie Loch - unlikely to be possible again for a while. One soul got marooned in ice between the crags and the gutted haddie steps, above the drop into Hunter's bog. Those following took a higher line, and a search party was almost required.
