WELCOME SWALLOW
Here is Hirundo tahitica a self introduced native to New Zealand from the SW Pacific and Australia. It is growing rapidly in numbers and its doubtful to me we want any more effecting the food chain for our own endemics such as the fantail.
the nesting birds usually have more than one brood each year - making them very succesful in their growth. often found making mud nests under the likes of bridges etc. Very swift darting flight.this one is captured on the stall - about to pounce on an unsuspecting insect.
