The Grose in Silhouette
There was some mist in the Grose Valley again this morning, however with fine conditions, contrast was a real problem. My colour images were very hazy due to the strong sunlight pushing in from the East. I elected to go with a mono silhouette instead.
Their were a pair of photographers shooting from the Govetts Leap Lookout, back in towards Bridal Veil Falls, which was bathed in full sun, so they weren't being bothered by the strong contrast shooting down the valley. One was shooting with a DSLR on a tripod, and the other I had assumed was shooting with a large format camera, complete with tripod & black cloth curtain. However I soon discovered that she was actually controlling an Octocopter Drone like this one, with a DSLR mounted underneath. It buzzed across the edge of Govetts Leap, hovering in a prime position above, but out a little way from Bridal Veil Falls. I didn't like to disturb them, so I'm not sure what or whom they were shooting for, but that was one expensive looking outfit. We're talking about approx. A$7000+ for the Octocopter + Gimbal (mounting bracket & controls for DSLR or movie camera) - then there's the cost of the DSLR on top. Quite a catastrophic loss if things go wrong!
