Hare on Loch of Stenness
I saw lots of brown hares in Stenness and Brodgar...9 at once and a total of up to 23 for the day. They show up well against the snow. Of the Orkney islands only Hoy has mountain hares, which turn white in winter. I was surprised at how many hares were running out onto the ice, far, far out, and not because of me, they were out there without noticing me. Not a lot of grazing out there. Maybe it is just the novelty of a big flat running ground that they are enjoying.
This one didn't notice me, though it would stop and listen each time I pressed the shutter. My lens isn't functioning properly at 200m, don't know why. I need to buy more lottery tickets so I can get some decent gear.
