The storm hit around 8:30 last night, crazy winds, lightning that was constant (probably a good thing because the sky was as black as pitch) thunder that couldn't be heard heard above the wind, and rain that flooded cellars (not ours fortunately) and came through any gaps that could be found (fortunately again, our house is new enough to still be wasserfest.)
The damage was visible when the sun rose.
Trees uprooted everywhere (made walking in the woods a challenge this morning).
Cars crushed where they'd been parked.
Roof tiles scattered.
Buildings endured what they could.
In our area six people were killed by the storm, a couple hit by lightning and one keeled over cleaning up the storm damage.
The true heroes are the emergency services and the local volunteers, they've been out all day (and probably all night) moving trees that blocked roads but maintaining their sense of humour throughout.
In other news, the kids are ecstatic, schools in the area are shut tomorrow due to the fact that the clean up is still ongoing, and will be for some weeks (here's hoping that the schools are only shut for one day!)
