Southern Comma being stalked by a lizard
Our third day in Armenia. We did see the Comma butterfly that we are very familiar with in the UK, but saw more of this one - the Southern Comma, Polygonia egea. I was lining up a shot of this one when I suddenly noticed a lizard making its way up the side of the rock, towards the Comma. I anticipated a wildlife drama, red in tooth and claw, but just after this shot was taken the butterfly moved its wings and the timid lizard thought twice about this adventure and legged it. This was just one of the 50 species of reptile that can be seen in Armenia.
